Sa-shi-mii don!

I've always adored sashimi (raw salmon) since I was a young kid, but my brother on the other hand, can never understand why.

To him, it's disgusting eating something raw. He would scrunch his nose and go "Ewww!" Contrary to how I'd order my steak medium-rare, he'd go for medium-well. It is really quite fascinating isn't it, how different people have different taste and opinions?

Anyways, if you're a big fan of sashimi, then this post is for you. :)

Tucked away in Port Philip Arcade (between Flinders Ln & Flinders St), Sushi Ten apparently serves one of the best salmon don in town.

The much-talked-about salmon don was served with seaweed flakes, tobiko (fish roe), avocado, cucumber, pink ginger and wasabi at the side.

This $15 dish did not disappoint, but it wasn't THAT mind-blowing either. Of course, the sashimi were really fresh, and that was undebatable. But for $15? I'd think twice before I head back in again.

But Don Don on Swanston Street is a whole different story altogether. Despite being a Japanese fast food outlet catered mainly for students and local workers, this bustling hut serves good salmon don too.

For only $8.90, you're served with a bowl of fragrant vinegared rice topped with fresh, succulent slices of sashimi presented in a pretty rosette, which was also accompanied generously with tofu, sliced beancurd, pink ginger, purple pickled cucumber and fresh salad mix.

Although the staff there work frantically, serving you your dish within 2 minutes, before you could even keep your change back into your wallet, they're not crabby. In fact, I'd say they're actually quite friendly.

But really, the best thing about Don Don for me, is that almost everything on their menu is below a tenner. *kaching* ($.$)

So, fellow sashimi don lovers, which would you go for? Or perhaps, if you haven't already, you could try both and tell me your verdict. ;)
