I have a friend who loves everything and anything with the chocolate orange combo. It was her tweet on Twitter, with something along the lines of her craving for some chocolate orange cookies that made me want to eat a chocolate orange cake too.
Recipe adapted from Good To Know and modified by The Bakeanista
Ingredients:
(A)
175g unsalted butter, softened
175g caster sugar
175g self-raising flour
1 tsp baking powder
3 large eggs, beaten
(B)
1 tbsp fresh orange juice
3 tsp finely grated orange rind
(C)
1 tbsp cocoa powder
2 tbsp hot water
Method:
1) Cream together butter and sugar until pale and creamy.
2) Sift flour together with baking powder, and add in gradually.
3) Add eggs and mix well.
4) Transfer half the mixture into a second bowl.
5) Fold the orange juice and rind into one bowl.
6) Blend cocoa powder in hot water then fold cocoa mixture into the other bowl.
7) Spoon the two mixtures randomly into a greased, and lined rectangular (7 x 10in) cake tin. Draw a knife through the mixture to create the marble effect.
8) Bake at 180°C for 35 to 40 mins until firm. Remove from the oven and leave to cool in the tin for 5 mins, then turn out and cool completely on a wire rack.
It was really moist and yummeh! And boy, now I'm totally in love with the orange and chocolate combination. ;)
