Sashimi Moriawase - range of sashimi selected by the chef |
The range of sashimi consisted of salmon, toro, hamachi, and hotate. Presentation was lovely, but it wasn't only delightful to your eyes, the sashimi were all very fresh and so tasty you could tell for sure it's of high quality. I give them A+

But I can't say the same for this. Sea urchin is just like durian, it's either you like it or you don't. And I didn't. I felt the texture and after-taste weird.
But Cheryl, being the sea urchin lover that she was, absolutely enjoyed it. She gobbled them down, one piece after another.
Petit awabi sashimi |
This is the abalone served live from Shoya's aquarium. I used to be a HUGE fan of abalone, but I'm not quite too sure why I didn't quite enjoy the taste of this awabi sashimi.
I found it odd, but yet I couldn't pin point exactly what wasn't right. The texture I could very well handle, but oh wells, maybe it's just me.
The udon was served in soup made with real dashi stock from scratch. And may I say that I love every bite of the crab, the meat was so delish and sweet, I wish there were more. Oh and the tempura batter was crisp to perfection.
I'm not sure if it is as authentic as the real stuff you can get in Japan because sadly, I haven't yet got the chance to visit the awesome sushi land, but that's on my travel plans for next year.
And I swear to God, I will eat all the sushi, mentaiko, udon, ramen, and the list goes on until my tummy kabooms.
But until then, I have Shoya to satisfy my udon-cravings. :)
If you too love Japanese food just like I do, you should probably give them a call now to make a reservation already.
Not sure how accurate this is, but I heard that there could be a minimum of $60 spend per person for the weekends, so you might want to double check on that. Otherwise, head in on a week night just like how Cheryl and I did.
